- Waikato-Tainui's vision is to grow a prosperous, healthy, vibrant, innovative, and culturally strong iwi. "Whakatupuranga Waikato-Tainui 2050" was ratified by Te Kauhanganui o Waikato at the April 2008 hui and underpins the tribe's strategic direction.

- A new and revised Te Hookioi publication has been introduced.
- The Tribal Development Unit is developing five key strategies to progress social, cultural and educational initiatives. A current work in progress is the 'Ko Wai Taatou' project which is an undertaking to conduct a tribal survey to produce a profile of the socio-economic, demograhic and cultural status of Waikato-Tainui.
- Plans are underway to re-develop the Hopuhopu Management Services property complex, as a cultural, educational, recreational and administrative tribal base.
- There are currently over 49,500+ members on our tribal register. All people of Waikato-Tainui descent living nationally and internationally, are encouraged to register. There is a specific drive to capture the details of our children, as well as up-to-date addresses and contact information of those already registered.
