1987 - Waikato River Claim (being part of Wai 30) filed in the Waitangi Tribunal

1995 - Deed of Settlement 1995, Waikato-Tainui Raupatu Claim. Waikato River excluded from settlement agreement as an outstanding claim.

2004 - Te Kauhanganui o Waikato Incorporated approves co–negotiators Lady Raiha Mahuta and Tukoroirangi Morgan to settle the Waikato River claim.

2005 - Waikato–Tainui and Crown sign off Terms of Negotiations.

2006 - Crown acknowledgements. Raupatu and special relationship.

14 March 2008 - Guardians Establishment Committee holds its inaugural meeting.

22 August 2008 - Waikato-Tainui and Crown sign a Deed of Settlement.

Next Steps
The Government will introduce settlement legislation as soon as possible. Waikato-Tainui and the Crown will work together to develop the accords and discuss outstanding matters.

HE PAANUI - WAIKATO RIVER SETTLEMENT:
At the Te Kauhanganui meeting held on 28 November 2009, co-negotiators Lady Raiha Mahuta and Tukoroirangi Morgan provided an update on the review and re-negotiation processes for co-management arrangements of the 2008 Deed of Settlement for the Waikato River. 

A series of tribal information hui will be held in December to discuss elements of revised co-management arrangements.

10 December 2009:               Glenview Conference Centre, Hamilton at 6pm
12 December 2009:               Poohara Marae, Cambridge at 9am
15 December 2009:               Te Ohaaki Marae, Huntly at 6pm
19 December 2009:               Te Kauhanganui Chambers, Hopuhopu at 10am
