’Mara’ was appointed to her position in 2006.  Prior to joining Waikato-Tainui she was the National Operations Manager for the Maaori Land Court with more than 15 years management experience and 20 years dedicated service. Mara has a Bachelor of Arts from Waikato University and a Diploma in Management from Massey University and Te Waananga o Raukawa.

Highlights of her career with the Court include the successful roll out of the Maaori Land Information System, establishment of Maaori Land On Line, a sound communication strategy, and the digital scanning of more than two-million pages of historical record.

As the Tribal Development Unit Manager, Marae is responsible for leading her team to implement Rautaki 2012 - a five year plan which includes initiatives to improve outcomes for Waikato-Tainui with a focus on Marae and social development, Maatauranga, education, te reo and tikanga, and kaumaatua strategies

Eric Pene
Ngaati Wairere, Hukanui Marae

Eric comes to Waikato-Tainui from Te Whare Waananga O Aotearoa, Maniapoto where he was the Administration Manager.

He has a background in administration including property, marketing and human resource management.

Eric's responsibility is to assist with the implementation of a number of Marae development initiatives with key focus areas being facilities, and people. There are seven initiatives and most are in progress.

Haereata or "Bunch" was the former Head of Department Maatauranga Maaori at Te Whare Waananga O Aotearoa Rahui Pokeka, Huntly.

Bunch has a background in Maaori development, indigenous studies, and Waikato-Tainui culture. She brings to the team a strong cultural perspective, her many networks, and analytical and research skills.

Under the Maatauranga-aa-iwi strategy, Bunch's work includes collecting tribal knowledge, collating an annual Maatauranga resource, and developing a paepae succession programme. There are seven initiatives in the Maatauranga-aa-iwi strategy.

Johnine has a wealth of experience and has been involved with social services for many years with a background in health and wellbeing, welfare, employment, youth, justice and education.

Johnine is well-known in the Waikato having established, coordinated and delivered service provider initiatives to many Maaori communities.

Johnine has developed the Health and Wellbeing strategy in Rautaki 2012 with a key focus on leadership in health, enhanced relationships, collaboration and iwi capacity building.

Moera has been working in the Tribal Registrations Unit since she established the tribal register in the early 1990s. Before coming to Waikato-Tainui she spent 17 years as a legal accountant.
Teeny Tukere
Ngaati Mahuta, Tuurangawaewae Marae
Teeny came to Waikato-Tainui in 2003 and assists with tribal registrations. Previously she was the Registrar of Electors for Port Waikato, a position she held for almost eight years.
